Balance Your Masculine and Feminine Energy

We all have both Masculine and Feminine Energy within us. These two types of energies (which can also be called Yin and Yang, Shiva and Shakti or Chaos and Order) are unrelated to gender but instead provide a conceptual explanation for two specific polarities.

What is the Masculine Energy?

The Masculine Energy is focused on “doing”. It is characterised by its focus, determination, confidence and drive. When we’re in our healthy Masculine, we’re full of certainty, direction and logic. We have no trouble cultivating discipline and we’re fuelled by challenge.

What is the Feminine Energy?

The Feminine Energy is focused on “being”. It is characterised by its intuitive, caring, patient and compassionate nature. When we’re in our healthy Feminine, we’re full of creativity and understanding. We have no trouble digging into our intuition to know what we truly need and how we can support others. When we’re too far in our Feminine however, we can fall into a state of dependency, of over sensitivity and victimhood.

How do we know when we’re out of balance?

When we’re too far in our Masculine however, we can fall into a need for control, tunnel vision and agression.

When we’re too far in our Feminine however, we can fall into a state of dependency, of over sensitivity and victimhood.

Ask yourself now, what’s an instance in which I was too much in my Masculine Energy? And what’s an instance in which I was too much in my Feminine Energy?

Even though we all regularly shift from one to the other, we all also have a dominant energy. Not sure what your dominant energy is? I’ve created a quiz to help you find out.

How can we awaken our Masculine Energy?

The first step is to understand its importance. If we strongly believe that being the Masculine Energy is nothing but a power game, is all about stepping on top of others and trying to take control, then we will never seek to awaken it. If you have some resistance there, listen to this podcast episode.

Once we’ve understood the importance and necessity of the healthy Masculine Energy, we can move onto some more practical tips:

  1. Set boundaries - In order to avoid being over-consumed by your emotions, it's important to set some healthy boundaries. In order to get more support on this I recommend you listen to this podcast episode on learning how to say "no".

  2. Bring more structure into your life. Don't worry, structure won't tie you down, having a structure can actually be very freeing! Start by setting yourself 3 top priorities for the following day every evening. Not sure where to start? Download my Master Your Stress Guidebook here.

  3. Challenge yourself to some HIIT. Challenging your body physically requires an embodiment of masculine energy. It might not be what you naturally sway to, but you might just learn to love it!

How can we reconnect with our Feminine Energy?

Once again, the first step is to understand its importance. If we strongly believe that being the Feminine Energy makes us weak, dependent and unable to stand up for ourselves, then we will never seek to reconnect with it. If you know that you have a deeper resistance there, listen to this podcast episode.

Once we’ve understood the importance and necessity of the healthy Feminine Energy, we can move onto some more practical tips:

  1. Create free space in your agenda - yes, entirely unplanned time! It might seem scary, but without creating space to think and dream, your creativity will suffer. Creating space will allow new ideas to come to mind...

  2. Reconnect with your intuition. Only so much can be decided with Pro-Con lists, your intuition holds so many answers that might be much more aligned with who you are. Don't know where to start? Try out my Intuition Meditation.

  3. Take a break from HIIT and try Yin Yoga. Challenge yourself to sitting still in a Yin Yoga class. During this kind of yoga you learn to let go of your resistive force and relinquish control as you settle into deep stretches...
